2009 National Festival News

The 2009 National Music Festival was held August 13 - 15 in Saskatoon, SK.

Congratulations to the 2009 National Winners, and
Thank you to the 2009 Award Sponsors!

BC had an unbelieveable year:  Andrew Wang, piano, from the Coquitlam and District Music Festival won FIRST place in the Piano section AND was the Grand Award Winner for the whole Festival.  He is pictured here with his accompanist/teacher Sasha Starcevich.


Isaiah Bell, tenor, from the Greater Victoria Festival won FIRST place in Classical Voice AND the Jan Simons Vocal Award for Song Interpretation.

Paul Hung, flute, from the Vancouver Kiwanis Festival won SECOND place in the Woodwinds section

BC also had three choral winners:

Class 11 – Maple Ridge Secondary Chamber Choir, Director C. Tennant, placed FIRST.
Class 17 - Surrey Youth Chamber Choir, Director S. Horning, placed FIRST
Class 14 - Maple Ridge Secondary Junior Choir I Block, Director C. Tennant, placed SECOND

Guitar National Finalist: Christopher Boston
Brass National Finalist: Ekaterina Daviel

Choral Finalists:
Class 8 National Finalists: Academy Chamber Choir, directed by D. James
Class 10 National Finalists: Prince George Jazz Choir, directed by G. Blok-Wilson
Class 12 National Finalists: Serious Options Women, directed by N. Quast
Class 16 National Finalists: St Patrick's Elementary Primary Choir, directed by K. Seu
